Description of Project

The ‘Local Solutions for Plastic Pollution’ (LSPP) project is funded by USAID under the program of Local Works for Environmental Health which will be implemented by GreenHub and 03 sub-awardees (ISPONRE, HUPH-VOHUN, GIMASYS).

The goal of this project is to reduce plastics pollution by building collective action from the ground up by strengthening and uniting networks, communities and individuals through: 1) environmental health literacy, 2) locally-determined and data-driven solutions for advocacy, 3) policy advocacy, 4) business innovation, 5) combining traditional media and emerging communications technologies

Within project, BUS recharged of consulting in the component: “Plan to implement a healthy tourism model by promoting green tourism practices and plastic waste reduction for enterprises” with the objective of developing an SMEs ecosystem that implements the Green Tourism model, reduction of plastic waste and contributes to the development of the tourism industry in Hoi An city in the direction of green tourism development

Results, activities

• Result 1 – Develop the manual booklet “Guideline for SMEs in practicing the healthy tourism model, reduction of plastic waste” to help SMEs reduce their use of single-use plastic and compost to reuse waste. Notably, the booklet was applied practically in four pilot SMEs that are accommodation and food and beverage businesses to deploy, supervise, and evaluate the cut of plastic waste.

• Result 2 – Cooperate with the Department of Information and Culture to develop the communication documents “All you need to know when traveling to Hoi An City” for tourists (both nationals and overseas tourists). This document was used to broadcast on public media equipment in Hoi An, which helps convey the message of cutting plastic waste to people.

• Result 3 – Establish a green accommodation Alliance that is a foundation for the communication and extent of the model of healthy tourism, and reduction of plastic waste.
